Story about Jaco and Cat in Family Dog magazine wins Dog Writers Association of America award
One Moment They Had a Bright Future as a Search-Dog Team. Then It Was Gone.
I was thrilled to learn a couple of months ago that a piece I wrote for AKC Family Dog magazine won the Harrison Stephens Inspirational Feature Award from the Dog Writers Association of America.
The feature is named in honor of Harrison Stephens, a newspaper editor who wrote thought-provoking features marked by journalistic integrity and humor until his death just before his 100th birthday.
Receiving the award was poignant, as we made the hard decision in September to put Jaco to sleep. His quality of life was deteriorating. David and I realized that it was time. We miss him.
